Challenge

How might one project a Christmas greeting on Palacio de Cibeles?

Solution

By using six 50,000 lumen Panasonic PT-RQ50 3-chip DLP laser projectors that offer native 4K images to deliver the brightness, autonomy, outstanding quality and reliability required by a spectacle of these characteristics.

"This 3D Christmas show on the façade of the Palacio de Cibeles was the first and largest 4K resolution installation in Spain."

Panasonic has once again transformed the façade of Palacio de Cibeles into a three-dimensional Christmas greeting. The company's projectors inaugurated the Christmas period on the 18th of December in Madrid through a screening entitled “Let's celebrate the reunion!”

“Let's celebrate the reunion!” is a magical tale with a surprising ending that takes the viewer on a journey of traditional Christmas scenes. Through the three dimensional projection mapping and Panasonic's cutting-edge technology, for a few moments, one of Madrid's most emblematic buildings was transformed into a postcard to celebrate Christmas.

The projection was possible thanks to OnionLab and G-AV Technologies, who made use of six 50,000 lumen Panasonic PT-RQ50 3-chip DLP laser projectors offering native 4K images. In this sense, in the words of Borja González, CEO and Technical Director of G-AV Technologies “this 3D Christmas show on the façade of the Palacio de Cibeles has been the first and largest 4k resolution installation in Spain. The PT-RQ50 provides outstanding image quality and allows for projecting truly eye-catching and powerful images through its advanced level of colour rendering. The PT-RQ50K is the world's most compact and lightweight 50,000 lumens DLP 3-chip laser projector”.

The emblematic Madrid building has served as the best stage for “Let's celebrate the reunion!”, which was directed by OnionLab and was visible from anywhere on the square. According to OnionLab's Laia Alabart, “Once again, the projection has transformed the Palacio de Cibeles on these special dates through spectacular staging. Basic typical Christmas elements are represented in three dimensions and with visual effects that deliver an amazing and unique experience to the audience”.

In turn, José Luis Carrasco, from Panasonic's Marketing department, stated that: “Panasonic is committed to offering the very best solutions for the world of culture and entertainment. In this sense, the Christmas greeting in Plaza de Cibeles square reaffirms Panasonic's commitment to innovation and its leadership as a technological ally for creative solutions”.
