TOUGHBOOK Guard
A trusted foundation for mission-critical environments.
Built-in hardware integrity.
Secure by design.
When operational continuity and data trust are non-negotiable, security must begin below the operating system. TOUGHBOOK Guard is Panasonic’s new embedded firmware-based security feature designed to protect the integrity of TOUGHBOOK devices throughout their entire lifecycle.
Security Below the OS. Trusted From the Ground Up.
Most security solutions focus on software and operating systems. TOUGHBOOK Guard goes deeper.
Embedded directly into the BIOS firmware, it continuously validates the device’s hardware configuration against an approved baseline, ensuring that only authorised components remain active even before the OS loads.
This enables early detection of rogue or unauthorised hardware that traditional endpoint security cannot see, including in offline or air-gapped environments.
Supply Chain Integrity You Can Demonstrate
For government, defence, public safety and critical infrastructure organisations, supply chain integrity is now a strategic requirement.
TOUGHBOOK Guard supports a Secure by Design approach by enabling organisations to:
Fit for Defence Environments
TOUGHBOOK Guard has been engineered to meet the expectations of the most demanding operational environments, including Defence.
Key capabilities include:
- Pre-Boot Hardware Validation
- Detects unauthorised hardware changes before system start-up.
- Offline & Air-Gapped Operation
- Functions without network connectivity.
- No OS Dependency
- Immune to OS-level compromise and malware.
- Custom Hardware Profiles
- Lock devices to approved configurations defined by the organisation.
- Real-Time User Alerts
- Immediate notification of detected unauthorised components.
These capabilities also make TOUGHBOOK Guard highly relevant for other mission-critical sectors where device integrity and resilience are essential.
Aligned with Regulated Environments
TOUGHBOOK Guard is designed to support alignment with recognised security frameworks and government mandates related to hardware integrity, supply chain risk management and Zero Trust architectures.
| Framework | How TOUGHBOOK Guard Helps |
|---|---|
| CJIS Security Policy v6.0 | Detects and reports firmware and hardware tampering and helps maintain device integrity |
| FISMA & Executive Order 14028 | Supports hardware trust anchors for Zero Trust architectures |
| NDAA §889 & FASCSA | Helps prevent the use of unauthorised or unapproved hardware components |
| NIST SP 800-161 | Supports supply chain risk management and hardware integrity validation |
A Cost Model Suited to Long-Lifecycle Deployments
TOUGHBOOK Guard is available as a one-time licence per device, with no recurring subscription fees.
This makes it particularly well suited to long-term deployments across government and mission-critical organisations, where predictability, control and total cost of ownership are key considerations.
TOUGHBOOK Guard ensures that the device you approve is the device you deploy and the device you continue to trust, wherever it is used.
Trusted Hardware. From Factory to Field.
Made for the challenge.
