Critical Communications World (CCW) unites technology vendors, integrators, customers, and partners from across the communications spectrum. It offers valuable insight into the challenges that shape the delivery of mission-critical connectivity in sectors such as defence, and emergency services.
This year’s event reinforced a clear trend: critical communications is becoming less about individual technologies and more about customised, connected solutions that deliver data when frontline users need it. Here are our key insights from an absorbing few days in London.
The evolution of mission-critical communications
As frontline teams modernise their communications infrastructure – including ongoing migration to the Emergency Services Network (ESN) and 5G adoption – attention is shifting towards how purpose-built hardware, software, and applications can drive operational efficiency.
For first responders attending incidents, or defence teams on the frontline, it has never been more important to access data at the edge, and where critical decisions are made – regardless of the environment. Fast, robust, and reliable connectivity is the foundational layer that delivers these insights when users need it, enabling quicker decision-making, and improved collaboration.
Speaking to blue light teams, there is continued demand for increased access to live operational data – including mapping and vehicle diagnostics – when devices are removed from vehicle docking stations. Our deployment for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service is a great example, where secondary, demountable devices complement existing Mobile Data Terminal (MDT) devices and provides access to critical information beyond the vehicle. This enables first responders to make more informed decisions in the field and improve collaboration between control rooms and third parties.
The move towards integrated mobility solutions
Visitors to CCW wanted to explore how to adopt integrated solutions, rather than standalone technologies, into their fleets. This includes rugged tablets, superfast and reliable connectivity, and vehicle integration and support services packaged into one mobility solution. This really pays dividends when managing large device fleets.
Panasonic TOUGHBOOK demonstrated how its rugged notebooks and tablets – such as the G2 and 33 2-in-1 detachable devices – sit at the centre of an end-to-end solution. This incorporates vehicle integration services, screen mirroring, and critical communications technologies delivered by our longstanding partners.
As operational requirements become more complex, organisations need partners that can support the full lifecycle of a deployment, from design and implementation through to ongoing management and support and de-fleeting.
Speaking of integrated solutions, it was great to see representatives from the Ambulance Radio Programme (ARP) present on-stage at CCW. It made us reminisce about Panasonic’s role in its nationwide ambulance technology refresh, and what’s possible when best-of-breed technology partners work together!
The role of AI in frontline operations
Discussions around AI have long moved beyond theoretical use cases. Delegates were keen to know how AI can practically help frontline teams work smarter and improve operational efficiency in demanding environments.
This is why we’re developing AI-ready devices such as the G2, which feature an integrated Neural Processing Unit (NPU) for fast and efficient AI-enabled edge computing. This keeps frontline teams productive in any connectivity blackspots, or where connecting to the cloud is deemed a security risk.
Redefining the connected frontline
CCW 2026 reinforced how success is no longer defined by connectivity alone, but by how organisations can build resilient, integrated solutions that connect devices, applications and networks to support faster, better-informed decisions in the field.
