Challenge

The interactive projections required projectors with maintenance-free operation, long lifespan, reliable performance, and ease of use.

Solution

For the exhibition in Praga Magica, Panasonic laser projectors featuring DLP technology were chosen, capable of excellently reproducing black and grey gradients. The projectors’ resolution is according to the creators’ request WUXGA (Full HD).

The unique interactive exhibition for the whole family.

Visitors can become an apostle on the clock, act as the hands of giant clocks, or take a flight over Prague.

Visitors to the new interactive exhibition Praga Magica can delve into the history of Prague and actively engage in intriguing visual projections, all based on interactive displays and other captivating elements that combine fun for the entire family with informative content.

This new permanent exhibition is located in the House at the Red Fox directly opposite the Astronomical Clock in Prague and is a joint project of designer Michal Pacina and the house owner Libor Winkler from the investment group RSJ. The creative technical processing is by Tomáš Novák from the Xlab studio.

Attractive concept combining projection and interactive elements

Praga Magica focuses on old Prague. Many exhibits offer visitors interactivity. Enthusiasts can become the living hands on the giant clock face, join the apostles at the Astronomical Clock, or use hand and body movements to direct a flight over Prague from a bird's-eye view. Thanks to a smart touch AI panel, they can even generate a house sign.

The visual experiences are dominated by an artificial waterfall projected directly onto the stairs leading to the first and second floors of the House at the Red Fox.

Also noteworthy is a futuristic panoramic view of Prague with towers that fly into the sky or land back at their original place, including the Žižkov Television Tower, which resembles a rocket itself. Museum visitors can also see the Astronomical Clock from the level of the first floor of the House at the Red Fox, avoiding the crowds of tourists at the Old Town Square.

Technical equipment

A total of 30 projectors handle all the projection:

  • Twenty-five PT-RZ690BEJ models are equipped with twenty ET-DLE060 lenses, four ET-DLE085 lenses, and one ET-DLE020 lens.
  • Additionally, four PT-TMZ400EJ projectors and one PT-TMW380EJ projector are used, which projects footage of old Prague onto the domed ceiling of one of the rooms.

All visual production is managed from a single control room situated above the last floor of the exhibition, where the server rack and operating station are located.

""WUXGA (Full HD) solution is fully sufficient for such use and simultaneously more budget-friendly than projectors with 4K resolution," explains Zdeněk Krýsl, Project Sales Manager at Panasonic Connect for Visual Systems Solutions in the Czech Republic and Slovakia."

Maintenance-free operation

All used projectors are maintenance-free, and Panasonic guarantees 20,000 hours of operation. However, in real situations, they last longer; similar projectors installed in another setting in Prague have been in operation for over 26,000 hours. They can operate in a 24/7 mode. For use in the Praga Magica exhibitions, they are turned off at night.
