CPL Continues to Champion IP-Based Live Production with Panasonic KAIROS Platform

Longstanding Panasonic partner, CPL, elevates its use of the KAIROS video production platform for live events, such as annual Camper Calling festival.

"Everyone at CPL is extremely happy with the KAIROS platform. It offers a combination of features specifically tailored for engineers and operators, and overall, it’s very user-friendly. The improvements we’ve seen over the last couple of years have been significant."

After Panasonic’s KAIROS solution made its Camper Calling debut in 2024, 360 technical production company, CPL, once again deployed the IP-based live video production platform at the 2025 edition.

Utilising Panasonic’s range of MultiViewers, camera control units (CCUs), remote operation panels, and switchers, it had complete control over the festival’s entire AV infrastructure as it captured artists such as Razorlight, Clean Bandit, The Charlatans, Pixie Lott, and The Hoosiers.

Faster Installation, and Unrivalled Control and Flexibility

CPL’s use of KAIROS is part of its overarching investment in the SMPTE ST 2110 IP-based transmission standard. Designed with large-scale events in mind, its Smart Routing feature virtually handles a larger number of input sources by automatically switching the video input to the network switch. This eliminates any worries around bandwidth limitations of the video that KAIROS can receive simultaneously.

The powerful AT-KC2000 KAIROS mainframe increases production flexibility for CPL’s team at Camper Calling. This enables them to seamlessly incorporate VT playback, keying, clips, sponsor loops, and the festival schedule into screens.

All switching and scheduling was handled entirely by KAIROS, with Panasonic’s AK-HRP1010 remote operation panel serving as the main management board, with a Panasonic C2 panel used to operate Panasonic’s AW-UE160 4K PTZ cameras. Auxiliary feeds were configured to highlight individual band members, enhancing the visual storytelling. Using Panasonic’s MultiViewers delivered efficient camera mixing and seamless distribution across the festival’s entire AV infrastructure.

One standout feature was the ability to build nested scenes across all screens, simplifying cutting and mixing. Operators could easily visualise the setup using Panasonic MultiViewer displays and adapt to live inputs from on-stage performers and guest artists.

KAIROS proved highly responsive to last-minute changes, such as quickly integrating band logos into the system. Working within the constraints of a 20-foot backstage cabin, CPL leveraged the AVoIP protocol, EasyIP, to automatically detect all assets on the network, simplifying the configuration of cameras and controllers.

Compared to the 2024 event, setup was noticeably faster thanks to pre-cased boards and improved deployment efficiency. The overall setup was more streamlined, requiring less equipment while delivering greater functionality.

Increased Confidence in IP-Based Production

Outside of the annual Camper Calling festival, CPL’s teams have also used Panasonic’s KAIROS platform and UC4000 studio camera chains at events such as The Glammies, Tropic Skincare’s flagship event that celebrates its community of ambassadors.

This is where KAIROS was invaluable in creating multiple scenes and mix effects within Birmingham’s bp pulse LIVE arena, all in one place, enabling seamless cutting. It also provided additional flexibility in operating telephoto and lower-third cameras.

Increasing PTZ Functionality

CPL used Panasonic’s flagship UE160 4K PTZ camera as part of its infrastructure at Camper Calling 2025, delivering uncompressed 4K visuals of audience and stage shots across large distances, without image degradation.

For this year’s event, UE160 cameras were mounted on isolation mounts to reduce vibrations from the main stage. In previous years, when cameras were fixed directly to the stage structure, some shots became unusable due to movement, but this issue was successfully resolved. The improvement meant operators could now cut to any PTZ camera shot at any time with confidence.

CPL also used KAIROS’ macro functionality for this year’s festival, primarily to create presets for the PTZs. These presets, assigned to macro buttons on the camera mix, captured drum risers, crowd shots, logos, and more, saving valuable seconds throughout the production.

When paired with the KAIROS platform, the UE160 helped CPL to deploy flexible presets, manage multiple input sources, and simplify live switching. This made it perfect for handling the demands of a multi-stage festival that continues to grow year-after-year.

Panasonic’s UC4000: A Favourite for Live Event Professionals

Built around a large 4.4K MOS sensor that delivers ultra-high-definition video with excellent sensitivity, low noise, and up to 2,000 TV lines of resolution, the UC4000 supports HDR (HLG), and advanced correction features like skew reduction and chromatic aberration compensation, delivering sharp and crisp images.

With a robust build quality, a standard 2/3-inch B4 lens mount, and extensive focus and gain control tools, the UC4000 is ideally suited to touring formats and live broadcast environments. It can be quickly integrated with Panasonic’s CCUs, allowing operators to take advantage of high-speed HD output on the UHD 12G-SDI transmission standard.

"Panasonic’s UC4000 studio cameras have been brilliant – our operators love them. Everything is intuitive, and the menu features are exactly what they need. We have had no problems whatsoever, and the picture quality is excellent. The colour matching between the UC4000s and the UE160s is spot on, making it very easy to cut between them."

A Commitment to IP-Based Production with KAIROS

After over a year of hands-on experience with Panasonic’s KAIROS platform in the field, CPL has grown increasingly confident in deploying it across a wider range of events. The benefits of a fully IP-based workflow have become clear, prompting CPL to invest heavily in training and onboarding more professionals into the KAIROS ecosystem.

CPL training

"CPL is proud to be positioned as a training hub, helping bring the wider industry up to speed with Panasonic’s KAIROS platform. Ahead of any event, all operators participate in dedicated training sessions, which reflects our long-term commitment to the KAIROS ecosystem and its role in shaping the future of live production."
