THE RISE OF EUROPEAN 5G PRIVATE NETWORKS IS AN OPPORTUNITY FOR BUSINESS
The telecommunications landscape in Europe is witnessing a transformative shift with the emergence of 5G private networks bringing new opportunities for mobile workforces.
written by: Thorsten Lutz, EU Solution Architect at Panasonic TOUGHBOOK Europe
As European businesses look to enhance connectivity and operational efficiency through technology, 5G private networks are becoming increasingly popular thanks to their robust security, high-speed data transfer capabilities, and ultra-low latency.
To help organisations benefit from this technology, Panasonic Connect Europe has recently opened its first private 5G network testing environment at the Panasonic Campus in Munich. This initiative, in collaboration with a leading 5G-as-a-Service (5GaaS) provider, marks a significant step towards simplifying the adoption of private 5G networks across industry sectors. The Panasonic Customer Experience Centre (CXC) allows businesses to explore the advantages of 5G technology, offering an immersive environment where the installation, configuration, and benefits of 5G can be experienced first-hand.
Competitive advantage from 5G
These benefits are rapidly becoming obvious to many organisations. The networks provide dedicated connectivity, which is crucial for handling sensitive information and executing mission-critical applications without disruptions. In addition, enhanced security features, including advanced encryption protocols and secure network slicing, ensure that enterprises maintain control over their data, mitigating risks associated with cybersecurity threats.
Industries such as healthcare, vehicle manufacturing, and public safety operations can particularly benefit from the real-time data transmission and reduced latency offered by 5G private networks. In fact, according to a study by Accedian, three-quarters of manufacturing organisations in Germany, Japan, the UK, and the US aim to adopt private 5G networks by 2024.
Making IoT a reality
Another significant aspect of private 5G networks is their ability to support a wide array of Internet of Things (IoT) applications. This is essential for industries like manufacturing and logistics, where IoT devices play a crucial role in optimising processes and improving operational efficiencies. For instance, airports and ports can leverage 5G private networks to streamline operations, enhance the passenger experience, and bolster security measures through improved surveillance and automated systems.
Rugged devices 5G-ready
At the heart of realising these benefits is the integration of suitable hardware that can harness the power of 5G. Panasonic's latest TOUGHBOOK G2mk2 device is designed to connect to 5G private networks straight out of the box. This enables organisations to take advantage of a dedicated, fully customised private 5G network, delivering ultra-low latency, faster response times, and enhanced data transfer and communication for mobile workers.
The new testing opportunity for businesses at the CXC allows companies to test their applications and devices in a controlled environment, which is crucial for fine-tuning performance before deployment. Many organisations are looking to unlock the potential of 5G for enhanced efficiencies and connectivity but have concerns or are unsure about how to proceed. With our connectivity experience and with multiple Panasonic mobile devices already optimised for 5G, it’s a natural next step for us to offer secure, superfast private 5G networks to customers and prospects across Europe, where traditional networks or public 5G is not fit for purpose.
So, if you are interested in harnessing the power of 5G private networks for your organisation, why not get in touch.
