Challenge

Bring traditional art forms to life in immersive experiences that blend paintings, LED displays, and 4K projection technology.

Solution

Panasonic’s projectors delivered continuous, vivid, 360° projection, with its visual toolset streamlining calibration, alignment, and synchronised playback.

"Projected art is an incredibly expressive medium, which made colour matching and image quality critical. We evaluated different projection systems and colour reproductions for nearly a year before selecting Panasonic’s REQ15. This made calibration simple and straightforward. The reliability and colour consistency of the projectors over long, continuous periods, gave us complete peace-of-mind, whilst bringing Mikael’s artwork to life."

Translating Artistic Vision into Immersive Space

The Omnia Immersive Art Experience is a large scale immersive exhibition created by contemporary urban artist Mikael B, hosted at The Plant venue in central Copenhagen from February to April 2026. Rather than creating a conventional immersive exhibition, the ambition behind Omnia was to deliver a multisensory experience that combined projected visuals, physical artworks, and immersive sound.

"It began with remarkably simple ideas. At its core, my work is about enabling a sense of freedom. I have so much that I want to express, but words are not enough, so I am constantly experimenting and searching for new ways to communicate these ideas visually. Each painting represents a moment in my life. Translating that into an immersive experience meant pushing myself creatively while, staying true to my visual language, and exploring something completely new."

The result is a hybrid exhibition that blends traditional gallery presentation with immersive visuals and soundscapes. This is designed to move visitors through a carefully choreographed narrative journey of spatial storytelling and visual experimentation.

To achieve this, Mikael and his brother, Morten, partnered with leading visual production company, FilmGEAR, and a group of experienced 3D artists to translate Mikael’s distinctive visual language into a spatial, walkthrough experience.

Choosing Fit for Purpose Projectors

Working with FilmGEAR, Mikael and Morten deliberately designed the Omnia Immersive Art Experience in such a way that would transport visitors from traditional art forms into new mediums. The hybrid approach sees visitors begin in a traditional gallery displaying Mikael’s original paintings before progressing through a mirrored room featuring LED screens and reflective surfaces, and into an ultraviolet area.

"Having a dedicated, day-to-day Panasonic contact streamlined any troubleshooting and accelerated deployment, which was crucial given the compressed installation schedule. Panasonic’s ongoing, hands‑on support was instrumental to the success of the Omnia Art Experience. To make ends meet, Panasonic even provided an extra media processor directly from ISE in Barcelona, ensuring that pre‑exhibition calibration could continue without interruption."

Streamlining Setup and Managing Complex Workflows

FilmGEAR took over the venue just six days before the exhibition opened. With no margin for delay, the team worked around the clock to transform the 1,000mspace into a fully immersive and operational experience.

The installation flexibility of the REQ15 allowed the projectors to remain hidden from view, ensuring that nothing detracted from the visitor experience. Long‑term reliability was equally essential, with the projectors required to operate for 10-12 hours a day for three months. This is where the 20,000 hours of maintenance-free projection gave FilmGEAR complete confidence.

To manage projector calibration and alignment, FilmGEAR relied on Panasonic’s Visual Software Suite (VSS). The platform centralised all calibration tools into a single interface, supporting geometry correction, edge blending, projection mapping, black level adjustment, colour matching, and content splitting.

VSS reduced manual effort for the FilmGEAR team, whilst eliminating the need for multiple standalone tools. When used with compatible cameras, the software enabled fast, camera‑based calibration, enabling accurate alignment within both projection rooms.

Throughout the exhibition, the FilmGEAR team used VSS on a weekly basis to ensure that all projectors remained precisely aligned, maintaining visual consistency across the installation.

In the second largest immersive room, Panasonic’s FMP20 Media Processor was deployed to support complex multi-projection workflows. This enabled compact deployment with built-in manual or camera-based auto warping, blending, black level adjustment, and synchronised playback. In the largest immersive space, seven REQ15 projectors were synchronised using the Assimilate Live FX virtual production platform, enabling seamless playback across multiple surfaces.

Construction continued while Panasonic projectors were being installed, making coordination and system reliability critical. Despite the intense timeframe, the installation was completed on schedule, with all systems fully calibrated ahead of the exhibition’s opening day.

Reimagining Traditional Art Forms

The response to the immersive experience has been overwhelmingly positive, generating strong visitor engagement, social media traction, and coverage from Danish television and newspapers. Encouraged by the reception, Mikael and Morten have expressed clear intentions to pursue future projects building on the success of the Omnia Immersive Art Experience.
