A Full Range of 5G-Compatible Rugged Devices

The latest version of the rugged Panasonic TOUGHBOOK 55 notebook is now compatible with the 5G Xpak modular expansion pack, providing superfast connectivity, faster response times, enhanced reliability, and quicker download speeds for mobile workers in any environment. This means that the entire TOUGHBOOK range, including the 40mk233mk4 and G2mk3, are now 5G compatible.

Panasonic TOUGHBOOK has listened to the needs of its customers and acted accordingly.

As a result, any persona in any industry can now use any TOUGHBOOK rugged device to take advantage of secure, high-bandwidth 5G connectivity – regardless of whether they are connected to private or standalone networks – to access mission-critical data quicker than ever before.

5G private networks are central to digital transformation

Panasonic’s rugged mobile devices are perfectly suited for use in sectors such as manufacturing, and logistics and supply chain, which in-turn are driving the increased adoption of 5G networks – especially private networks. These are becoming increasingly popular thanks to their robust security, high-speed data transfer capabilities, and ultra-low latency.

Private 5G networks provide dedicated connectivity that is crucial for handling sensitive information and executing mission-critical applications without disruptions. Furthermore, enhanced security features, including advanced encryption protocols and secure network slicing, ensure that enterprises maintain control over their data, mitigating risks associated with cybersecurity threats.

Private 5G networks are particularly advantageous for supporting a wide array of IoT applications. For example, in manufacturing, 5G private networks enable real-time monitoring and control of machinery, improving operational efficiency, and enabling predictive maintenance. With reduced latency and higher reliability, 5G can help to optimise processes, enhance worker safety, and achieve higher levels of automation.

This is why Panasonic Connect Europe – in collaboration with a leading 5G-as-a-Service provider – can offer superfast, private 5G networks to customers and prospects across Europe, where traditional networks or public 5G may not be fit for purpose.

It also has a dedicated private 5G network testing environment at its Customer Experience Centre in Munich. Panasonic’s comprehensive, end-to-end offering helps to simplify organisations’ adoption of private 5G networks by allowing them to test applications and devices in a controlled environment. This is crucial for fine-tuning performance before deployment, and unlocking the true potential of applications using 5G.

Enhancing edge computing with 5G

With the proliferation of next-generation AI applications, market demand continues to grow exponentially for devices that can quickly and securely transfer data when in the field, using 5G standalone networks.

Panasonic’s TOUGHBOOK 40mk2 and G2mk3 both feature the Intel® AI Boost neural processing unit (NPU), vastly increasing efficiency and accuracy for mobile workers at the edge, across a variety of industries. This is particularly useful for workers in sectors such as utilities, who can use AI to increase efficiencies, productivity, and reduce human errors in data capture during inspections.

Whilst data can be collected, stored, and analysed using AI when mobile field workers are in an area with no available cloud connectivity, when they do need to quickly and securely transfer large amounts of data back to base, the ability to seamlessly connect to 5G networks can save valuable time, further increasing operational efficiency for mobile workers that have to increasingly do more with less.

Within automotive field services, Panasonic and longstanding partner, Cradlepoint, offer ruggedised routers offering 5G connectivity, enabling technicians to remain connected to the fastest networks available when diagnosing and repairing vehicles in the field.

Ultimately, the increased availability of devices that can connect to 5G networks will make edge computing increasingly powerful. It will enable new applications that require ultra-low latency and high-speed processing to deliver even faster data processing and communication when it’s needed most.

TOUGHBOOK and 5G: An unrivalled combination

As industries continue to embrace digital transformation with AI, the powerful combination of rugged mobile devices and 5G connectivity is proving essential for mobile workers looking to enhance efficiency, automation, and real-time decision-making.

Panasonic TOUGHBOOK’s range of 5G-compatible rugged devices ensures that mobile workers can stay connected and efficient, providing businesses with what they need to thrive in an increasingly connected world.
