PANASONIC INTRODUCES VOICE-BASED PTZ CAMERA CONTROL USING SENNHEISER MICROPHONES
The Panasonic PTZ camera solution with voice-based camera tracking uses microphones from Sennheiser to automatically switch the camera’s focus between different speakers.
Bracknell, UK. 8th April 2021 - Panasonic continues to revolutionise AV recording with the introduction of the Panasonic PTZ camera solution with voice-based camera tracking. Using Sennheiser microphones for audio-based tracking, the PTZ cameras can automatically switch focus between different speakers. With automated and smooth camera panning, it’s ideal for online conferences, training courses or lectures, for example, when questions are asked from the floor, or a new person speaks at the conference table.
The solution uses Panasonic PTZ cameras and TeamConnect Ceiling 2 microphones from Sennheiser. They are managed centrally by a controller via the network. Panasonic is already using the solution at its own Business Solution Centre Europe (BSC) with a media control system from Crestron, but other comparable control systems can also be used.
Intelligent motion and audio-based tracking complement each other
Audio-based tracking opens up a range of new possibilities and can be used in conjunction with Panasonic’s existing automatic motion tracking and optional face tracking software (AW-SF100 / AW-SF200). For example, at a conference a main speaker can be recorded by a PTZ camera via auto tracking, while other participants are filmed with a second camera when they speak using audio-based tracking.
Settings can be adjusted individually and saved as a preset. For example, priority can be given to individuals to avoid unintentional panning to conversations in the audience. Clip-on microphones can also be integrated into the AV recording schedule and prioritised accordingly. A slight time delay can also be set for the PTZ camera, so that it only pans once there is a permanent audio signal.
More time for the subject matter
For speakers, the new AV solution with Panasonic and Sennheiser components makes things much easier. They no longer need any technical know-how, or a camera operator, or a mixer technician on site. The speakers can concentrate solely on their subject matter, while the speeches are recorded automatically.
Saves resources and is a secure investment
Companies that already use PTZ cameras from Panasonic and Sennheiser microphones or media controllers can take advantage of the solution. Various different cameras and microphones can be combined depending on the size and use of the room. A Sennheiser TCC2 microphone can cover a room measuring 60m2. Several microphones are used for larger spaces.
“There’s currently a huge need for high-quality and automated AV formats. Board members and politicians are reliant on online formats at employee meetings and press conferences; and schools and universities are teaching digitally,” said Guilhem Krier, Panasonic Head of New Business and Market Development at MEBD & DSC Business Units. “The audio-based control of our PTZ cameras increases the level of automation and makes handling more convenient. Both are a huge advantage.”
“Companies and organisations are setting up more and more rooms specifically for online conferences,” explains Marco Schulz, Sales Engineering Manager at Panasonic. “The advantages of high-quality AV sessions will also influence our lives in the future. Experts are talking about new hybrid solutions, in other words, the permanent switch between in-person conferences and online meetings.”
