"Reliability and ease of use were big deciding factors when we were selecting a solution. What stood out for us and made the decision easier, was the support we received from the Panasonic team. It’s great knowing there’s a real person you can reach out to who will help no matter the issue. And when we hit a stumbling block, they worked with us until we found a solution. That level of personal support makes a huge difference"

Making Flexible, Immersive Learning a Reality

When Technological University Dublin (TU Dublin) set out to enhance the learning experience for its students and staff following the COVID-19 pandemic, it wanted to achieve more than upgrading technology, it wanted to remove boundaries in education and future-proof the university.

With funding secured under the N-TUTORR project, part of Ireland’s EU Recovery and Resilience Facility (NextGenerationEU), TU Dublin committed to exploring a new approach to education delivery. Instead of equipping all lecture rooms with new technology, it wanted to implement a Mobile Hyflex learning infrastructure. This hybrid model allows students to attend lectures in person, join online synchronously, or watch them asynchronously, all while ensuring a high-quality learning experience.

Maintaining an immersive and inclusive educational environment requires more than a camera and a MS Teams link. TU Dublin needed a reliable, easy-to-use, and fully integrated AV solution that could easily be deployed by staff anywhere on campus, with minimal technical setup or support needed.

Plug-and-Play Simplicity and High-Fidelity Performance

To bring the Mobile Hyflex vision to life, TU Dublin embarked on a multi-phase deployment of Panasonic’s PressIT360 all-in-one video conferencing solution, combined with a refresh of their existing Panasonic projector infrastructure, installing Panasonic LCD, and 1-Chip DLP™ 4K projectors in their newest, most advanced teaching buildings.

The Panasonic PressIT360 delivers a transformative collaboration experience for hybrid and remote meetings, offering a 360-degree camera, microphone, and speaker system in a single, compact device. Designed for seamless plug-and-play functionality, it enables instant setup and intuitive operation, reducing IT support demands and boosting meeting efficiency.

After extensive trials, which included on-the-job testing with other 360° camera systems, TU Dublin’s onsite technical teams selected the Panasonic PressIT360 for its plug-and-play usability with no need for drivers or installation. The PressIT360 also delivered superior audio-visual clarity when compared to solutions offered by other manufacturers, allowing both in-person and remote students to hear and participate seamlessly in conversations.

An additional benefit was that the PressIT360 is fully compatible with TU Dublin’s existing technology. This includes Microsoft Teams and Surface Pro devices, the latter of which enables digital whiteboarding and advanced annotation capabilities.

The university rolled out 55 PressIT360 units, turning standard classrooms into high-performing, Mobile Hyflex environments. This allows students at home to follow live lectures, interact with fellow students, and view shared content as if they were in the room.

In tandem, the university upgraded several learning spaces with 350 Panasonic LCD and 4K projectors in digitally focused buildings, ensuring immersive visual quality for subjects such as computer science and design, where clarity and resolution are essential.

Result: Teaching That Transcends Boundaries

With fluctuating student attendance due to illness or travel, TU Dublin’s Mobile HyFlex approach transforms the way lectures are delivered.

Staff can enter any suitable room, connect the PressIT360 and Surface Pro, and begin teaching without needing technical support. Students can log in from anywhere and feel fully engaged in the learning experience, despite not physically being in the classroom. This removes barriers and future-proofs the university’s learning infrastructure, with both students and lecturers no longer limited to traditional classroom settings.

This opens doors for the university and its students, enabling global guest lectures and international learning to become a part of TU Dublin in the future – without geographic limits.

As university and education evolve, the idea of combining a physical campus with an online one is exciting and changing the way we teach and learn in the future.

TU Dublin faculty have found several uses for the technology in addition to teaching with staff joining meetings from various venues as well as engaging in cross-campus collaborations. The mobile nature of the PressIT360 has extended the university’s digital capability, enabling participation for both students and educators, no matter where they are.

"We chose the Panasonic ITPress360 for ease of use. It just works. There are no driver issues, no complicated setup and it integrates with our existing tech, whilst delivering fantastic audio and image quality."

Technology with expertise make the biggest difference

Panasonic’s solutions are easy to use and staff across departments are comfortable using the technology with minimal to no training. The projectors and cameras are robust enough to support TU Dublin’s evolving digital strategy and deliver a future-proof solution.

The high-quality image and audio quality deliver a seamless learning experience for all students whether in the classroom or online.

However, a key deciding factor for TU Dublin opting for Panasonic was for its on-site technical experts, who proved reliable in delivering quick responses to problem-solving and support throughout the process.

As student demand for flexibility grows and teaching methods evolve, TU Dublin has established a foundation for inclusive, immersive learning in the future, powered by Panasonic.
