Driving In-Vehicle Efficiency and Productivity with Panasonic TOUGHBOOK Screen Mirroring
Daniel Creasey, UK & I Marketing Manager, Panasonic TOUGHBOOK
In today’s fast-paced, data-driven world, mobile workers rely on seamless access to real-time information to make mission-critical decisions. This is why Panasonic has collaborated with VNC Automotive to redefine how workers operating in the field interact with in-vehicle solutions, with the TOUGHBOOK Screen Mirroring solution.
A Smarter Way to Work
Part of Panasonic’s suite of vehicle integration solutions, TOUGHBOOK Screen Mirroring has been designed to enhance efficiency, reduce complexity, and future-proof mobile operations for customers across Europe.
It enables field workers to mirror the display of their rugged TOUGHBOOK device – such as the 33 or G2 2-in-1 detachable tablets – directly onto a vehicle’s existing OEM touchscreen. This eliminates the need for additional in-cabin screens or bulky docking stations, streamlining the vehicle’s interior while maintaining full access to essential tools like navigation, work orders, and communication applications.
At the heart of this solution is VNC Automotive’s Cobalt Cube®, facilitating seamless integration between the TOUGHBOOK device and the vehicle’s dashboard. Compatible with any vehicle that supports Android Auto, the system ensures that mobile workers can interact with the OEM screen through a single, central interface.
For emergency services and roadside assistance teams, other critical vehicle systems can also be integrated into the solution and controlled via the TOUGHBOOK or from the vehicle’s dashboard. This includes internal and external lighting; sirens; radios; and cameras, whilst the TOUGHBOOK remains safely stowed out of sight, or in another part of the vehicle.
Key Requirements From In-Vehicle Solutions
Mobile workers need more than just rugged hardware. They require intelligent, integrated systems and devices that support their workflows. Key requirements include:
- Real-Time Access to Data: Whether it’s a live incident report or a maintenance schedule, workers need instant access to information.
- Hands-Free Operation: Safety is critical when operating vehicles. Voice commands and dashboard integration reduce distractions, and ensure compliance with regional road safety regulations.
- Customisation and Flexibility: Every fleet is different. Panasonic’s end-to-end Mobile-IT As-a-Service solution is tailored to meet the unique needs of each use case, delivering a customisable, end-to-end package that includes robust hardware, essential software and dedicated support – all for a highly flexible monthly subscription.
- Minimal Downtime: Panasonic’s five-year warranty and comprehensive managed services suite of support, servicing, and maintenance maximises efficiency. This minimises hardware costs and vehicle installation downtime, keeping mobile teams operational.
A Suite of Vehicle Integration Services
The TOUGHBOOK Screen Mirroring solution is just one component of Panasonic’s comprehensive vehicle technology and services portfolio. It offers a full suite of integration services, including:
- Vehicle Docking Solutions: Secure, ergonomic docks for TOUGHBOOK devices that ensure stability and accessibility.
- Power Management Systems: Intelligent charging solutions that protect battery life and ensure devices are always ready.
- Consultancy and Customisation: Panasonic works closely with customers to design and implement solutions that meet specific operational needs.
This hands-on approach ensures that every installation is optimised for performance, safety, and ease of use, whether it’s a single vehicle or an entire fleet.
As technologies like AI, 5G, and IoT continue to evolve, the demands on mobile workforces will only increase. Panasonic’s in-vehicle solutions, including TOUGHBOOK Screen Mirroring, are designed with this future in mind. By enabling seamless communication, reducing hardware complexity, and supporting real-time decision-making on-the-go, Panasonic is helping organisations to stay agile and competitive.
