In August, the Panasonic TOUGHBOOK team took on the challenge of Tough Mudder at Badminton House, raising over £2,000 for City Hospice, Cardiff. Employees from both the Cardiff and Bracknell sites came together for a cause close to their hearts.

City Hospice, Cardiff’s local hospice, provides compassionate care and support to individuals, and their families, living with life-limiting illnesses. The funds raised will help the charity continue its vital work in the community, from providing counselling and nursing visits to specialist therapies.

The money raised can make a real difference to those who need it most. This includes:

  • Home visits from specialist nurses, providing essential care and support to patients.
  • Occupational therapy, helping patients manage symptoms like fatigue and breathlessness.
  • Reflexology support, easing stress and promoting wellbeing for patients and their families.
  • Dedicated bereavement counselling, helping individuals and families navigate grief and emotional healing.
  • Funding Clinical Nurse Specialist visits, who can deliver expert end-of-life care to patients in their own homes.

The 15km Gloucestershire course pushed the team to its limits, with high walls, icy waters, and gruelling endurance tests. Nine Panasonic employees tackled every obstacle together, building resilience and camaraderie along the way to get to the finish line. Some were so inspired by the experience that they’ve already signed up for next year’s event!

True to form – and not to waste a valuable opportunity to put our TOUGHBOOK devices to the test – we brought a couple of G2 and 33 2-in-1 detachable tablets along for the journey. Equipped with accessories such as the rotating hand strap and shoulder strap, each team member took turns in carrying the devices through everything the course could throw at us, including water and thick mud, giving them a thorough workout in real-world conditions. One tablet was even briefly submerged (not to be tried at home), and kept working flawlessly – did we expect anything else?

Supported by our loved ones and friends, we had a great time. It was incredibly tough, but we pulled together as a team, and came away with minor cuts and bruises – and pride in what we achieved. We know that the money raised will make a real difference to City Hospice and the families they support.

Here’s to the next fundraising initiative!
