Challenge
To equip the historic congress building, which had recently undergone a major renovation, with versatile, state-of-the-art projection technology that could illuminate rooms and settings of different sizes and dimensions in a historic sensitive environment.
Solution
Panasonic’s DLP™ 4K projectors were chosen for modernising the main auditorium, and Congress Halls A and B, with LCD projectors installed across various meeting & exhibition rooms and the veranda. This has significantly increased visitor engagement and flexibility.
"We sought a comprehensive solution that balanced cost, flexibility and quality across all our meeting and conference rooms at Finlandia Hall. Consequently, we needed a manufacturer capable of supplying a comprehensive range of LCD and DLP™ projectors, along with a variety of lenses to meet our specific requirements. Panasonic met these criteria"

Finlandia Hall
A Modern Revival of a Nordic Icon
Finlandia Hall, a renowned architectural landmark with striking white marble design, is a significant and versatile event venue in Helsinki, Finland. Designed by the world-famous architect, Alvar Aalto, it opened in 1971 and hosts concerts, conferences, exhibitions and cultural events.
In a bid to double visitor footfall and make it more versatile, it recently underwent a three-year renovation to modernise facilities and improve accessibility, while preserving its heritage. The Hall reopened to the public in January 2025, showcasing new event spaces, acoustically refined interiors, a bistro restaurant and design shop, as well as overnight accommodation.
The goal was to create an experienced-based event centre where every visitor could encounter something new. The renovations included the enhancing the main auditorium, which seats approximately 1,750 people, and the Chamber Music Room, which seats around 350 guests and includes adjustable acoustic screens. Additionally, the Congress Wing, which contains multiple conference rooms – including the large Halls A and B – and spaces of various sizes with further exhibition and meeting facilities, were all fully refurbished.
Versatile, Eco-Friendly Projection Technology
Ilari Suonpää, the Presentation Technology Manager at Finlandia Hall, who is responsible for overseeing the technical aspects of presentations and audiovisual systems within the venue, was keen to work with a projector manufacturer that could provide a range of versatile and flexible projectors that could be moved or changed to meet requirements.
After thoroughly researching the market, Panasonic stood out as the only manufacturer that could supply the required combination of LCD and DLP™ projectors. A variety of Panasonic short- and ultra-short throw lenses were also chosen to accommodate the requirements of different rooms and spaces.
Panasonic met these criteria. Furthermore, Panasonic projectors are sustainably manufactured, utilise recycled materials and have very low power consumption and heat load. Panasonic could also seamlessly deliver remote management and any required maintenance throughout the projectors’ entire lifecycle"

Finlandia Hall
Delivering Tailored, Powerful Projection
Panasonic worked with Finlandia Hall’s AV team, and specialist AV technology and solutions provider, Kauko Oy, to map the required projectors for each space. A lot of time and consideration was given to the desired versatility that each projector would deliver. For example, if Finlandia Hall was staging a concert, would a national broadcast company be able to take the signal and use it? This emphasised the need for each space to be configured in such a way to accommodate as many different types of events as possible – whilst eliminating the need for extensive external cabling.
Precise projector placement was essential, especially in the steep profile of the main auditorium, where a clear line-of-sight from the rear wall to projection screens, was critical. Panasonic’s PT-RZ34K 3-Chip DLP™ projector was selected due to its impressive performance as a large venue 30 500 lumens projector – offering market-leading reliability and image quality as the world’s smallest and lightest projector in its class. This delivered superior installation flexibility.
In the main auditorium, ET-D3LET40 long-throw lenses were deployed for their compatibility with 3-Chip DLP™ projectors, ensuring crisp, large-scale projection. For medium to large spaces requiring flexible installation options, Panasonic’s ET-EMT750 and ET-EMS650 lenses were utilised to deliver optimal coverage and clarity.
Installation Flexibility a Priority
Fifteen Panasonic PT-REZ15 1-Chip DLP™ projectors were utilised in Congress Halls A and B within Finlandia Hall’s dedicated Congress Wing, with a further 10 installed within the iconic Veranda. These delivered impressive power efficiency, a 25,000:1 contrast ratio, and up to 20,000 hours of maintenance-free operation – all within a compact body.
The Veranda at Finlandia Hall presented a unique challenge due to its low ceiling, making standard projector setups impractical. Panasonic stood out as the only manufacturer that could offer a straight lens solution, avoiding the bulkier periscope-style alternatives. The space’s unconventional dimensions required precise projector mounting, bracket design, and casing to ensure a seamless installation.
The result was a discreet setup that allowed the projectors to be positioned as close to the screen as possible – without casting any shadows that would otherwise ruin the visitor experience. Furthermore, Panasonic’s ET-C1U100 ultra-short throw lenses delivered exceptional performance on the Veranda, with rear-projected visuals providing powerful visuals in a compact space.
In addition 2 pcs PT-CMZ50 UST 5K lm LCD Projectors were installed in the Forest exhibition area and Sauna room.
Panasonic further enhanced Finlandia Hall’s visual infrastructure with high-resolution LED displays strategically placed throughout lobbies, conference rooms, and other meeting areas.
Positioning Finlandia Hall as a Future-Ready Event Destination
Panasonic’s projectors have enhanced accessibility and engagement for visitors and event organisers for Finlandia Hall – merging architectural heritage with cutting-edge audio visual innovation. This has ensured that it can continue to deliver immersive experiences across a wide range of event formats, for many years to come.
As Finlandia Hall enters a new chapter, it stands as a benchmark for how thoughtful renovation and strategic technology partnerships can transform a cultural landmark into a future-ready, experience-driven event destination.
