Panasonic LinkRay makes data transmission through light a reality
The light based data distribution platform, introduced as a concept by Panasonic at ISE 2016, is set to be rolled out.
The LinkRay platform will be available in 2017 and uses LED light to transmit content to mobile devices, turning digital signage displays, signboards and light sources in to 1-2-1 marketing tools for smartphones.
Users can receive data sent from LinkRay transmitters by using their smartphone’s camera. Information can be downloaded and displayed in the user’s native language, augmenting visitor experiences in spaces such as museums and galleries, as well as in retail environments.
LinkRay technology will be available in a range of professional displays (42, 49 and 55-inch) as well as a Fixed ID modulator and constant voltage power supply unit. These fixed ID modulator provide LinkRay ID codes to a connected LED light source, such as a signboard or lamp. Additional larger 70-inch and 80-inch displays are slated for release in winter 2017.
“We have incorporated analytics in to the LinkRay platform so that marketing and management teams can view statistics on how many visitors have been scanning the displays, offering insight in to which offers or exhibits are most popular,” said Enrique Robledo, Marketing Manager at Panasonic.”
