AI and Customisation Top-of-Mind for TOUGHBOOK at 2024 Emergency Services Show
As the UK’s leading blue-light forum, the Emergency Services Show exceeded expectations once again for Panasonic TOUGHBOOK, giving it unrivalled access to the full spectrum of blue-light decision makers over two busy days in Birmingham.

AI just the tip of the iceberg
In 2023, we were still amidst the artificial intelligence (AI) boom, popularised by Generative AI solutions that were great for the traditional workplace – yet still to be realised for truly mobile emergency services workers. In 2024, this has started to change.
It was great to see decision makers embrace AI technologies and explore how they can help to improve efficiency and productivity when every moment is precious. Whether it’s helping with content creation, employee engagement, or stakeholder communication or using AI to determine the risk factors during a callout, AI is undoubtedly experiencing its own surge of popularity within emergency services, helping everyone make better-informed decisions.
This is why we’ve included an AI-enabled Intel® processor in the latest version of our TOUGHBOOK G2 2-in-1 detachable tablet, enabling mobile workers to enhance efficiency using AI processing at the edge.
Customised in-vehicle solutions have also proved extremely popular at the Emergency Services Show. As newer vehicles continually rota in to fleets, and the need to access to infotainment solutions increases, fleet managers are looking more and more to vehicle integration partners to create increasingly customised solutions that gives even more data to end users during callouts.
Custom solutions proving popular
Once again, it was great to see Panasonic TOUGHBOOK technology being used across different stands – it strengthens our position as the leading rugged tablet and notebook provider for emergency services. From brands such as Ford, Gamber Johnson, and Motorola, I caught sight of the Panasonic logo on numerous occasions and was great to see the devices in multiple vehicles applications whilst walking the show floor.
The reason is very simple; TOUGHBOOK is at the forefront of creating customised solutions and integrations that address the end user’s specific requirements – we don’t know the meaning of “off-the-shelf”. As more and more companies realise the benefits of adopting our reliable, rugged hardware and mobile IT-as-a-service solutions, awareness of what we can offer only increases.
In an era where budgets are being squeezed, decision makers need to be making increasingly savvy IT decisions. By demonstrating what’s possible with our TOUGHBOOK custom solutions, we’re helping them to lower total cost of ownership and maximise return on investment.
Teach them young
For those looking to work in a technology-focused role in blue light services, making the annual pilgrimage to the NEC is a must. Time after time, the Emergency Services Show attracts hundreds of students from UK emergency services courses. It’s a great place for them to soak up everything they can ahead of a future career in the sector.
This is evidence of how today’s technology is an enabler for inspiring future generations. Regardless of their future job role, whether it’s IT and operations; senior management; or as frontline officers, having a deep understanding of how the application of technology will help them to do their job is crucial. This will ultimately help to keep people safe – and save lives.
Panasonic is excited about engaging with students who are new to the industry, answering questions about how our TOUGHBOOK rugged devices are just one element of custom emergency service solutions. This year, I have actually recognised people who first attended the Emergency Services Show in the 2010s, now representing their brands on the show floor. It’s great to see their careers flourish into a decision-making role in technology!
Going Bigger and Better for 2025
The momentum behind the Emergency Services Show has been steadily building year-after-year. Last year’s event was back to full strength, proving that it really is the one-stop-shop to meet premium brands and decision makers and learn what they require from their rugged mobile computing solutions. This year was no different.
We were so impressed with the feedback from our partners that exhibited within the Emergency Tech Show this year, and as a result, Panasonic TOUGHBOOK will be located within the Emergency Tech Show in 2025. Alongside our partners such as Gamber Johnson and Motorola, this will give us even better access to end-users, fleet managers, and senior IT officers who are looking for custom solutions.
