20,000 lumens laser projector to be world’s smallest and lightest
Panasonic has released further specifications on the PT-RZ21K at InfoComm 2017, a filter-less laser light source successor to Europe’s best selling high-brightness projector.
Set to be released in early November, the PT-RZ21K is specifically designed for rental, live entertainment, staging and any permanent fixed large venue, and offers 20,000 hours maintenance free operation.
It’s the world’s first filter-free ultra-high brightness projector and has the smallest footprint of any 20,000 lumen model on the market.
Featuring a dual-laser 3-Chip DLP™ light source, it has built-in redundancy and provides uninterrupted projection to ensure the show goes on should a laser diode fail - making it perfect for high-profile, mission-critical applications.
The new projector presents a laser alternative to the existing PT-DZ21K, which is the current industry workhorse in the rental and staging market with over 50% market share.
All of Panasonic’s existing 3-Chip DLP™ lenses and frames available for the PT-DZ21K will work with the RZ21K, helping maximise the investment that rental companies have made in Panasonic.
“There’s a clear interest from the industry in switching over from lamp to laser,” said Hartmut Kulessa, European Marketing Manager at Panasonic. “We have ensured that the RZ21K is lighter and smaller than any other projector in this class. This enables easier handling, without the use of forklifts, and minimises projection array shadows, killing fewer seats.”
“The projector is engineered to withstand continuous 24/7 operation with very low maintenance, and because it is laser technology, there is far less picture degradation over time, meaning a lower cost of ownership.

3D in focus for the entertainment industry
The incredible success of Avatar: The Way of Water is just one of the factors that has put 3D back into focus for the entertainment industry. Incredibly, the movie has already scaled the heights to become the third-highest ever grossing movie – knocking Cameron’s own Titanic one rung down the ladder. The ability to see the world of Pandora in 3D has been cited as one of the driving factors behind its huge success.

3D - Can you see what I see?
Mention 3D and many of us will immediately think of the pioneering 3D movies that we first saw in the cinema. For the older amongst us, it might be frighteners like the shark Jaws jumping out of the cinema screen to shock the audience, or for the younger reader their first view of an incredible 3D world in the movie Avatar.
