PANASONIC LAUNCHES IP65-RATED MILITARY ADAPTOR FOR TOUGHBOOK G2 RUGGED TABLET
Customisable and cost-effective TOUGHBOOK G2 adaptor provides secure and reliable IP65-rated rugged functionality within military environments.
Bracknell, UK. 27th May 2025
Demonstrating its ongoing commitment to defence sector innovation, Panasonic TOUGHBOOK has launched the first IP65-rated adaptor for the rugged tablet market, compatible with its market-leading G2 mk3 tablet. Developed by the Panasonic European Services and Solutions Centre in Cardiff, UK, the G2 MIL Adaptor enables defence users to connect seamlessly to a range of peripherals and accessories used within military environments with a commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) device – whilst remaining IP65-rated against dust and water exposure.
Militarising a Market-Leading COTS Rugged Device
One of the most customisable, modular rugged tablets available, the G2 mk3 is one of the first rugged tablets using Windows 11 Pro to offer AI edge processing capabilities. It features market-leading IP65-rated dust and water resistance, independently tested to MIL-STD 810H and IEC 60529 standards.
However, with all independently verified IP ratings based on the G2’s standard ports and peripheral doors being closed, protection against water and dust ingress is lost once those ports are in use.
Using a MIL-STD Fischer MiniMax™ connector, the G2 MIL Adaptor provides power and USB 3.0 connectivity. This replicates the full functionality of the G2’s ports and expansion areas without compromising its IP65 rating, where the standard ports cannot be used due to the nature of the environment.
Enhanced Flexibility and Functionality
The G2 MIL Adaptor can provide power and USB 3.0 connectivity to the device, providing high-speed data transfers. The USB 3.0 interface can be used to connect to a wide range of accessories and networks, using customised MIL-STD cables, including LAN - other connections such as VGA can be developed on request.
The G2 MIL Adaptor is also interoperable with Nett Warrior / NATO STANAG 4695 and 4851 interfaces. This is achieved through the use of a custom cable and embedded controller software, enabling the G2 MIL Adaptor to deliver enhanced operational flexibility across a range of mission profiles.
"The G2 MIL Adaptor is the product of countless hours’ feedback from our defence partners, who require a secure, IP65-rated solution. It’s a perfect example of how we’ve taken a widely available commercial-off-the-shelf rugged device, and cost-efficiently adapted it into a reliable and bespoke solution. Whereas entirely custom-made offerings might take anything up to two years to reach production, the G2 MIL Adaptor enables our customers to quickly take advantage of the G2’s functionality within the toughest military environments."

The G2 MIL Adaptor will continue to receive further enhancements in the future.
